X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (formerly Cole) is leading tributes being paid on Twitter to 25 year-old singer Simone Battle who was found dead in her Los Angeles home at 8am (local time)
The former X Factor contestant was a member of the band GRL, a 5 piece girl group formed as a successor to the Pussycat Dolls. Simone made it through the live shows of the first US series of the smash hit X Factor, singing in front of the judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Paula Abdul and L.A. Reid.
Police are investigating the death and have not yet released any details as to the manner of her death.

The news was broken to social media by Simone’s friend and fellow musician Derek Butler, who posted about the death on his Instagram account:
“I’m still in shock and in disbelief to have confirmed the death of my childhood friend. Her heart was pure gold and her star power limitless. Rest in sweet peace Angel.”
GRL’s record company and management company issued a joint statement: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Simone Battle of GRL. Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.”
