And it looks likely that he will swap his reality show dancing shoes for hiking boots to brave the jungle.

A source told the Mirror that they were “quietly confident” he’d do it this year and that he’d be “an amazing signing”.

When he was previously asked whether he’d take part in I’m A Celeb, he said: “I thought I’d never do a reality show but I’ve realised I’m someone who needs a challenge. I’d consider it.”

Footballers have varied in how well they’ve done in I’m A Celeb. John Fashanu came second in series 2 and Kieron Dyer came fourth last year. But Neil Ruddock and Rodney Marsh both came seventh in series 3 and 4, respectively. Jimmy Bullard’s exit was a shock in series 14 when he ended up 10th.
