Five boys all aged 13 to 14 have been charged with raping a child aged under 13. West Yorkshire Police have said that the charges relate to two separate incidents, all involving the same victim.
One of the boys is also facing a charge of sexually assaulting the child. The police officer heading up the investigation, Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson said: “Five boys aged 13, 13, 14, 14 and 14 have all been charged with rape of a child under 13.
“Two of them, one aged 13 and one aged 14, have been charged with two counts of rape of a child under 13, one aged 13 has been charged with one count of rape of a child under 13 and sexual assault of a child under 13.
“The other two, both aged 14, have been charged with one count of rape of a child under 13. The charges relate to two incidents involving the same victim in the Calderdale area in July 2013.”
All five teenagers have been released on bail; they are scheduled to appear at Calderdale Youth Court in two weeks’ time on 20 August.
