A young man tragically killed after being hit by a suspected drink-driver has been identified. James Edwards, 22, was struck by an Audi as he was walked along a lane in Stockport in the early hours of Saturday morning. Warm and moving tributes have been paid to James – also known as ‘Hodge’- across social media.
Bruce Turner posted on Facebook: “One of those guys who was just genuine. And kind. So, so kind. A true gentleman, who had time for people. This should not have happened mate. I’m so so so sorry xxx.” Joe Mayers said: “Had so much time and respect for the guy, can’t believe it! Will be missed by us all.” Sally Barber Simpson said: “Beautiful lad inside and out will be greatly missed x”.The accident happened on Bramhall Moor Lane in Hazel Grove, just after 4am. Mr Edwards was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries. Soon after police traced a black Audi A5, believed to have been involved in the crash. A man, aged 29, and a woman, aged 27, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The man was also arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. Both remain in custody for questioning.
