A terrified family claim they were flung from a theme park ride and covered in burning hydraulic fluid when machinery failed. Marilyn Tuckwell and three of her grandchildren were left “screaming” at Twinlakes Theme Park, in Melton, Leicestershire. Marilyn’s husband David, son Alex and a fourth grandchild were watching helplessly on as the revellers – still strapped into their seats – plummeted to the ground.
“They had already had two or three goes on it when suddenly, out of nowhere, there was an almighty bang and it dropped them to the ground before some sort of liquid started gushing down onto them,” said Mr Tuckwell, from Countesthorpe. “I shouted for them to get out as quickly as possible. I had no idea what the liquid was and I was worried it could burn them.
“One little girl on the opposite side to my family, who was also on the ride, was screaming in terror. It was horrendous.” Mrs Tuckwell said: “It all happened in a few seconds, one minute we were up in the air, and the next a huge bang and we were down on the ground with fluid all over us. It was very alarming and I was covered from head to toe in liquid and felt a burning sensation.”
