An entire street has been sealed off after reports of gunfire at a community centre. Police are checking hospitals in the area to widen the search for potential victims after the incident in Smethwick, near Birmingham.

Trouble broke out at the Community Action Project centre at around 1.20am last night. Search teams found what was believed to be a bullet and a shotgun casing.

Det Sgt Chris Jones said: “No one at the scene had sustained any injuries and at present no victim has been identified. However, hospital checks are being carried out to establish whether this is definitely the case. Clearly gun crime is a high priority for us and we will be working round the clock to identify who is responsible. We urge anyone who was at the party or in the vicinity, and saw what happened, to contact us as soon as possible with any information.”
