Emmerdale are reportedly planning an exciting live episode later this year to bring the long running saga of Emma Barton to a close. In an airing of the show that will see the villainous character killed off, bosses are seemingly hoping that the live element will add an extra edge to proceedings and encourage more to tune in to see that it all goes smoothly.
While these plans are by no means confirmed and remain at the rumour stage, a source apparently close to the show claimed: “Emmerdale love an ambitious stunt and this is something they’ve been discussing for some time. Last year’s No Return week was a real triumph for the soap and got people talking about it again.”
Speaking to The Sun, they added: “The last time they tried a live episode was in 2012 and it was a headache to plan and pull off but they managed it. They want to go one further this time and hope they will pull in viewers from other soaps.”
