A woman who left an 11-month old baby girl alone in a park for SEVEN hours while she went out boozing has been jailed. The baby was discovered alone with her face in the dirt – strapped to an upturned pram by a dog walker early one morning.
Tonight Julie Gill, 43, starts 12 months behind bars after a judge slammed her behaviour and said the frightened tot – who can’t be named for legal reasons – could have died. Preston Crown Court heard Gill, who admitted child cruelty at a previous hearing, had taken the baby out with her while she downed lager and vodka in pubs and clubs around Blackpool, Lancs, with a pal.
The friend told cops Gill still had the baby girl with her when they went their separate ways at midnight – but she arrived home around 4am – minus the tot. A passerby found the little baby in a deserted park with no coat, shoes or blanket and with a soiled nappy and grazes to her face on July 24.
Gill’s belongings were also found near the pram – but she was nowhere to be seen after “forgetting” she was meant to be taking care of the child. Gill, of Blackpool, Lancs, sobbed as Judge Robert Altham told her: “She had been alone, abandoned in an upturned pram with her face in the dirt. She could have been attacked by a dog or a fox, she could have been abducted. She could have found because of the position she was in, difficulty breathing. She could have died.”
