After a series of arguments, One Direction have lost a crucial team member.
The manager that the band members used to call “Daddy” has quit after a dramatic falling-out with singer Zayn Malik.
Paul Higgins had been closely involved with 1D since not long after their inception; as well as being an important part of One Direction’s touring operations, Higgins has been a confidant for the singers.
However, a source close to the globally-popular boyband claimed that things between Malik and Higgins have become fractious: “There have been issues behind the scenes for a while, and they’ve finally come to a head leading to Paul’s relationship with the band coming to an end.
“In many ways he has completely run the show while they’ve been on tour – they even call him Daddy. He became a friend as well as a key part of their management set-up. He’s always been at the heart of the One Direction team, and it’s hard to think of them going on tour without him there.”
It is thought that the row may explain why the rest of the band flew to the US to promote their album without Malik. Once Higgins returned to the UK, Malik flew out to join his bandmates.
Higgins has previously worked with various acts including Girls Aloud, Boyzone and Westlife; he is reputed to be one of the best in the business.
