A father-of-five has confessed to police that he killed his children and disposed of their bodies by stuffing them in bin bags and dumping them at the side of the road.
The five siblings, who were aged between two and eight, were reported missing by their mother in South Carolina in the US on Monday. Jones and his ex-wife both had joint custody of the children and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office said that Jones was their primary legal custodian.
Jones was arrested on Saturday for driving under the influence. He was detained by the police in Raleigh, Mississippi and when officers searched his car they discovered chemicals that are used to make crystal methamphetamine. Officers also found bleach, hydrochloric acid, blood and possibly other bodily fluids.
When Jones was questioned, he confessed to killing his children and dumping their bodies near a logging road, miles away in South-Western Alabama. Though Jones did not say why he had killed them, he led police to the scene and the bodies were recovered.
Charlie Crumpton, the Smith County Sheriff, said:
“I’m a father of two, and I can’t imagine what goes through a man’s head when he does this,” Crumpton said. “It was a horrible, horrible crime.”
