A mum and her 12-year-old twins were killed in a holiday horror crash as her husband and 14-year-old son travelled in a separate car, police have revealed. The three victims were driving towards Barnstaple in North Devon yesterday morning when their white Kia Sportage crashed with a Marks and Spencer’s lorry. Experienced police officers said it was one of the most shocking crashes they had seen.
The husband and teenage son, who were travelling in front of the trio, reportedly witnessed the tragedy unfold behind them on the A361 North Devon Link Road. The 43-year-old mum died at the scene of the smash, while her twins, a boy and a girl, were both taken to hospital, police said in a statement today. The daughter was pronounced dead on arrival at North Devon District Hospital.
Her twin brother was taken to hospital via air ambulance, but sadly passed away shortly after his arrival. The family were from the Milton Keynes area. Three ambulances, five rapid response vehicles and an air ambulance rushed to the scene near Aller Cross at around 8.25am yesterday. Police said the Kia Sportage and the lorry had been travelling in opposite directions when they were involved in the “two-vehicle collision”.
