The aunt of a two-year-old girl screamed, “The dog’s got the baby!”, after her niece was allegedly savaged by the animal in her back garden. Little Ella was playing in the garden of the house on Cockburn Street, Toxteth, Liverpool, with two other kids, aged four and six. She suffered severe bite wounds to her face and body after up to five “huge” dogs, from a neighbour’s home, burst in and attacked her, it is claimed.
One of the animals – described by neighbours as “XXL American Bull Dogs” – is said to have grabbed the toddler’s head during the mauling. Her aunt, who was looking after the youngsters for the afternoon, reportedly fought off the attack before scooping up her niece. Running to the front of the house with the little girl, she reportedly screamed: “The dog’s got the baby! The dog’s got the baby!”
Ella was airlifted to hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition, with her distraught parents by her side. This morning, her cousin, who didn’t wish to be named, claimed the dog in the picture “grabbed” the child by the head after “jumping through the fence”. “She’s lucky to be alive,” she told The Mirror. “The dog that had hold of her head jumped through the fence and grabbed her by the head.”
