Claire King has been supported by Loose Women viewers after revealing she is considering euthanasia. The Corrie and ex-Emmerdale star, who is divorced and has no children, fears “becoming a burden” on her friends and the NHS. Claire, 54, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis , has told how ill health and caring for her disabled parents has left her considering ending her own life.
The actress, who recently quit Corrie after three years, doesn’t “want to be remembered in that state” and is campaigning for a living will. Speaking on Loose Women, she said: “You wouldn’t do it to your labrador. You wouldn’t do it to a dog, so why would you do it to your family? I don’t want to say you can open the doors and its a flood gate for everyone. I think what could be introduced is a living will and you could put it in your will, do not resuscitate. I don’t want to be remembered in that state.”
Loose Women viewers took to Twitter to praise Claire for opening up and to back her opinion. One viewer said: “Fully support @claireking101 on #loosewomen talking about euthanasia. Just because you’re terminally ill doesn’t mean u can’t have a choice” Another added: “#LooseWomen Claire King’s right and I totally agree that a living will is possibly the way forward. It should be a personal choice.” A third said: “Agree with Claire. I think in only exceptional circumstances it should be permitted. #LooseWomen”
