Coronation Street is planning a terrifying storyline that scares even the boss. Producer Kate Oates – who has been wildly credited with putting the ITV soap back on top with a raft of brave storylines – has admitted that the story has left her scared about doing it.
She told Radio Times: “At the moment, there are still stories I’m passionate about telling. We’re doing one next year that scares me a bit but if it’s taken in the way we intend, it could do a lot of good.” Show boss Kate recently said that she wants the cobbles to represent the nation with all kinds of families living in Weatherfield as the show goes to six episodes per week: “We do need to look at our diversity, definitely and get a better representation of different kind of families across the street.”
Part of the move towards representing the country includes having a gay family on the cobbles with Billy Mayhew and Todd Grimshaw raising a child, but more racial diversity is in the works too to bring in new characters for the increased number of episodes. “There has to be loads of story going on as we go to six episodes in autumn – there will be lots of different character groups and tones of stories,” she added.
