Things are getting rocky for Steve and Michelle

The Street’s resident lovey-dovey couple, Steve McDonald and Michelle Connor, are heading for the rocks and will have split up by Christmas.

Steve’s battles with depression will mean that he becomes increasingly distant from Michelle as he pushes her further and further away.  However, unable to admit his depression, means that Steve, played by Simon Gregson, leaves Michelle, played by Kym Marsh, with the feeling that he does not love her any more.

38 year-old Kym Marsh said of her character Michelle: “She can’t understand it. Every time they get a minute together he disappears.  It’s very odd behaviour. She thinks it’s her and that he doesn’t love her any more.  Michelle is absolutely heartbroken – she has no idea what she’s done wrong.  She’s devastated. But he acts like he doesn’t care.”

Simon Gregson has played Steve McDonald for 25 years.  Speaking of the future plot development, Simon says: “Steve’s not telling anyone what he’s going through. He pushes Michelle away” and he is relishing the acting challenge: “After so many years of silliness, now we’ve got to actually work.”
