A sixteen year-old boy repeatedly denied his guilt and forced his young victim to give harrowing evidence in court.
However the teenager from South Tyneside was found guilty of two charges of rape; both charges related to an incident which happened last year, when the youth was 15.
Newcastle Crown Court heard that the only a few months after his depraved attack on the schoolboy, the youth was found guilty of having sex with an underage girl.
Jailing the teenager for five years, Judge Brian Forster QC described him as “cocky” and said he knew what he was doing was wrong when he attacked and raped the little boy.
“The circumstances were fully considered by the jury during the course of the trial. I had the opportunity to assess you during the course of the trial and I am quite sure you knew what you were doing was very wrong. You took advantage of him for your own sexual satisfaction.
“It is important to keep in mind that the long-term impact of this type of offending on a young victim is unknown. I have found you to be a cocky young man. I noted the way which you answered questions and it is clear to me you knew that what you were doing was very wrong.”
In addition to his prison term, the teenager must sign the sex offenders register for life and will be subject to the terms of a sexual offences prevention order for the next ten years.
