Hospital staff could not believe their eyes when a fox fell through the ceiling of a children’s paediatric ward forcing the evacuation of eight children and the closure of the in-patient ward.
Staff at the North Middlesex University Hospital believe the animal was able to climb into the roof of the ward when building work was being carried out at the hospital in Edmonton. Staff called the RSPCA who were able to remove the creature and release it back into the wild.
No patients or staff were injured either by the fox, or the falling ceiling tile which brought the fox onto the ward. Staff described the fox’s ingress as happening in a “non-patient” area of the ward; the ward was closed for several days to allow the building to be made secure and the ceiling repaired.
