Actor and comedian Charlie Murphy has reportedly passed away at the age of 57, according to his manager. Murphy was the older brother of comedic legend Eddie Murphy, and was a successful stand-up comedian on his own, most notably performing iconic sketches in Chappelle’s Show and helping write his brother’s film Norbit.
The older Murphy also starred in popular animated comedy The Boondocks and toured with notable acts like Eddie Griffin and Cedric the Entertainer. According to the late comic’s manager, Murphy was battling leukemia and had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Murphy’s death rocked the entertainment world and led to an outpour of condolences from many of the comedian’s friends and admirers. “We just lost one of the funniest most real brothers of all time,” Chris Rock tweeted. “Charlie Murphy RIP.”
