One of Britain’s most notorious inmates has been clashing with fellow prisoners and has received death threats as a result.
Charles Bronson, who has been inside for more than 40 years, has clashed with Muslim inmates over their late-night praying. After several clashes at HMP Full Sutton, Bronson’s brother has revealed that Bronson was threatening with beheading.
Charles Bronson’s brother, Mark Peterson, explained that Bronson ordered the men praying to shut up when they were praying at night. Mr Peterson explained: “He’s been having some verbals and they threatened to cut his head off. I’m not sure how it started but they were up all night praying and kept him awake so there was some verbal.”
Mr Peterson went on to explain that Bronson told them to “pipe down” and following that confrontation, “There were some threats made by these prisoners.”
Bronson converted to Islam in 2001 after marrying his now-estranged wife Saira Ahmed Even though he changed his name to Ali Ahmed, Bronson has since renounced the religion and made various disparaging remarks about Islam.
Mr Peterson is not worried about his brother’s welfare though: “He can handle himself okay for a 61-year-old man. They will never see each other so they will never get the chance to confront each other.”
After Bronson was jailed for seven years in 1974 for armed robbery, a series of behind bars attacks on inmates and guards mean he has never been released. Bronson, who was born Michael Peterson, has now changed his surname again to Salvador in an attempt to distance himself from his violent reputation.
