A central London Tube station has been closed over safety fears as hundreds of Lincoln City supporters gathered outside ahead of the club’s crunch FA Cup tie with Arsenal. The Metropolitan Police say Covent Garden station has been closed because of smoke from flares entering the station.

Footage from the scene shows hundreds of fans of all ages clad in red and white filling the streets drinking and singing just a few hours ahead of kick off of the north London match. Some fans – who are calling the station closure an “Impvasion” – were even spotted holding aloft homemade trophies in the hope of glory.

Lincoln City are the first non-league team to reach the FA Cup quarter finals in 103 years so it’s perhaps no wonder that some fans can’t contain their excitement. However other visitors to the area have described the crowds as “crazy” and warned of smoke bombs being set off.
