An 11-year-old cancer survivor allegedly killed herself after being bullied for having a ‘crooked’ smile caused by surgery to remove a tumour.Bethany Thompson told her best friend of her plan on the school bus home before she shot herself on the porch of her family home, it’s reported. The tragic schoolgirl, from Ohio, United States, was just three when she had a brain tumour removed but the operation damaged nerves in her face, leaving her with an uneven grin.
Bethany’s devastated mother Wendy Feucht believes her daughter decided to end her life on October 19 because she was being teased for her appearance. The 34-year-old told the Columbus Dispatch: “I think that she was just done. She didn’t feel like anybody could do anything to help her.”
Her dad, Paul Thompson, also believes that it was name-calling about what he described as a “crooked” smile, which contributed to his daughter’s tragic death. Bethany reportedly found a loaded handgun on an upper shelf and went to the back porch, where she shot herself.
Superintendent Chris Piper said that they were trying to find the cause of her tragic death but added there was “no single that says this is what it led to”. He acknowledged Bethany had been bullied last year but said the matter had been resolved and there was “no evidence for bullying this year”.
