A van driver has been killed in a horror smash caused by a roadblock set up by UK-bound migrants on the outskirts of Calais today. The man died instantly as his Renault Master burst into flames on the A16 motorway.
A group of migrants used rubble and branches ripped from nearby trees to halt traffic between junctions 49 and 50 on the busy Dunkirk to Calais stretch of the road. The tactic is used to stop vehicles so they can climb aboard lorries heading for the south coast of England – leading to authorities branding it an accident waiting to happen.
Nine Eritrean migrants were arrested after being found on board a lorry also involved in the smash. The driver of the van is believed to have died instantly after it burst into flames.
