A British man drowned during a lunchtime dip off the Spanish island of Menorca. The 58-year-old had been eating with his wife and another couple in the resort of Es Castell. Having decided he was hot during his meal he dived into the sea to cool off at around 2pm yesterday.
Local media reports the restaurant owner told him swimming was not allowed in the area but he ignored the warnings. At around 2.35pm someone from a neighbouring restaurant saw a body floating face down around 50 feet from the shore.
He leapt into the water and pulled him into shore where onlookers worked frantically to revive him. The man has not been named.
