Britain is heading for a mini-heatwave with temperatures poised to rocket into the mid 20Cs next week. A plume of warm air from the continent is set to send the mercury skyrocketing and sun-loving Brits dashing to the beach.
Highs of 25C are possible next week, although the Met office has warned Brits they will have to endure two days of unsettled weather before the sunshine arrives. Ladbrokes has slashed the odds on the warmest May ever from 8-1 to 4-1 with 2-1 on the 2017 being the hottest summer on record.
Met Office spokesman Nicola Maxey said: “Warm air coming in from Iberia will bring temperatures of around 20C (68F) or 21C (70F) by the end of this week … By the middle of next week we could see temperatures in the mid 20Cs as tropical maritime air arrives from the south.”
