Olympic high-jump silver medallist, Germaine Mason, has been killed in a motorbike crash in Jamaica.  The Team GB athlete, 34, finished second in the high jump at the Beijing games in 2008.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force issued a statement saying Mason apparently lost control of his bike and crashed before dawn in St. Andrew Parish, southeast of the capital, Kingston.

The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper reports that world and olympic champion sprinter Usain Bolt, a close friend of Mason’s, was among the first on the scene and that Mason died on the spot.
