A shopping centre in Romford, east London, was evacuated over a bomb threat today. Police have confirmed they rushed to deal with a suspicious package in South Street, near the Brewery shopping centre earlier.
A cordon was put in place and nearby roads were shut off to the public. Early reports suggested the package was spotted in the town’s Barclays bank. Footage from the scene showed scores of shoppers filing out as emergency services dealt with the incident.
And panic-stricken locals took to social media, urging people to avoid the area and claiming there were “police everywhere”. Many Brits are uneasy over security after a string of terror attacks in recent months. The current terror level is severe – meaning an attack is “highly likely”.
