French police have been called to the Louvre in Paris over a security threat after a suspicious bag was found. Video footage from the scene shows police cordoning off an area as people are cleared from outside the world-famous museum.
The courtyard in front of the landmark was where presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron tonight planned to celebrate a possible victory with his team. According to his campaign spokeswoman, the Esplanade du Louvre was evacuated on Sunday “as a precaution”.
The security alert comes as voters across France cast their ballots in the final round of the country’s election. Campaign spokeswoman Pauline Calmes confirmed the reports. She did not specify the nature of the threat but says police ordered the evacuation.
