A man was arrested after allegedly wielding a knife and shouting threats at children singing outside a church. Armed police swooped after reports that the man, armed with two knives, was shouting at up to 40 teens as they boarded a minibus heading to a Christian camp. Terrified church staff were reported to have been confronted by the shaven-headed man, claimed to have been armed with two large knives and shouting.
The children were singing and joking when he shouted: “What are you f***ing doing? Stop making so much noise.” Eyewitnesses said the man went into a house to come back with the knives saying: “Which one do you want?” Church staff alerted police and were told to stay indoors as more than dozen armed police, helicopter and police dogs were called to the scene. A 21-year-old man was arrested about 90 minutes after the start of the drama in the busy road in Riverside, Cardiff.
He was led out of a neighbouring house by police to be questioned. A youth worker at City Church in Riverside, Cardiff, said about 40 young people and their leaders were in the street when the shouting man approached. The youth worker said: “He went in the house and then came out with two big knives. He said: ‘Come on – let’s go.’ He was mad.”
