A busy London tube station was evacuated over flooding caused by heavy rain. Transport for London (TFL) earlier said a number of other Tube stations across the capital were shut over the flooding.

However TFL later confirmed that only Highbury and Islington station – which shut at 10.48am – was shut before it reopened shortly after Noon. It added the flooding was caused by heavy rain and a response team were sent down to clear the water.

A TFL spokesperson previously said: “We apologise to customers whose journeys have been disrupted this morning. Highbury & Islington station is currently closed due to flooding, caused by heavy rain. We’re working to clear the water as quickly as possible so that services can return to normal.”
