A man who was threatening a woman with a knife was shot by police in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to Shepperton Road in Islington, North London shortly after 11pm on Thursday evening.
When they arrived at the property, they discovered a 40 year-old man threatening a woman with a knife and specialist teams were called to the scene. A police negotiator and firearms officers arrived quickly at the location.
Shortly before 1am this morning, the firearms team fired a number of shots at the man. Officers then entered the property. The shot man was taken to hospital in an ambulance, but was pronounced dead en route.
The woman, whose name has not been release, was not hurt in the incident, but is being treated for shock. The Metropolitan Police said they believed the man and the woman knew each other.
The Metropolitan Police also released a statement: “As in any shooting, officers from the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed and this incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).”
