The body of a baby has been discovered in a wheelie bin.
The body of the newborn baby girl was found in the bin in Richmond in North Yorkshire at approximately 2.40pm this afternoon.
A member of the public made the shocking and tragic discovering, finding the body of the infant in a wheelie bin situated in a communal waste area on Whitcliffe Grange.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and efforts were made to resuscitate the baby; sadly, they were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead.
Speaking on behalf of the Richmond Safer Neighbourhood Team, Inspector Mark Gee, said: “Enquiries are at a very early stage and our primary concern is to locate the mother of the new born baby girl to ensure that she receives urgent medical care.
“It is highly likely that the mother is in a very distressed state and needs professional support. We urge her to contact the police or medical staff as a matter of urgency as her health and well-being is the priority.”
