A bomb device has been found in an abandoned suitcase in New York. The “improvised explosive device” was found inside a busy Port Authority Bus Terminal close to Hell’s Kitchen.

Port Authority officers became suspicious of the luggage in a branch of Deli Plus at around 5.15pm (local time) on Wednesday evening. NYPD Bomb Squad officers took the case, finding it rammed with “a fuse assembly, a cardboard tube and black gunpowder,” an NYPD spokesman said. A stun gun refill was also part of the explosive, it was revealed.

Other items in the case included a knife, bolt cutters and screwdrivers. Jersey City resident Arsenio Mason, 39, was arrested in connection with the find. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, possession of burglary tools and criminal possession of a controlled substance, PAPD officials said.
