Police have announced that following their desperate search for Charlotte Bevan, the young mother who vanished from hospital with her newborn baby, a body has been discovered.
The 30 year-old new mum was last seen on Tuesday at approximately 9pm. Ms Bevan disappeared from Bristol Maternity hospital, along with her four-day old baby Zaani Tiana.
Yesterday, her partner, Pascal Malbrouck made an impassioned plea for her to return, but he and her family have now been informed that a body has been found in the Avon Gorge in Bristol.
The last sighting of Charlotte was of her leaving the maternity unit with her newborn daughter; clad in slippers, she was not wearing a coat and Zaani was only wrapped in a blanket.
In a press conference yesterday, Avon & Somerset Police released CCTV footage of Charlotte Bevan leaving the hospital with her daughter. Speaking at the conference, DCI Simon Crisp said: “This message really is for Charlotte. It is not a crime to take your own baby from hospital. It is simply not a crime, OK? We have spoken to the staff at the hospital and we are convinced you are a good mother. You are a caring, thoughtful mother who is attentive and you were looking after your five-day-old child in the best way possible.
“What worries us is that given all that you have left somewhat unexpectedly from the hospital, you haven’t told your friends or family where you were going or your intentions. That is really worrying for them and really worrying for us. All I ask is – please make contact, let us know you are okay. You’ve got nothing to fear.
“If you are a friend of Charlotte’s and you know who she is, she has nothing to fear. Please come forward and tell us where she is.”
The body of the woman will be formally identified later today.
