A large blaze has broken out in central London sending dark smoke billowing over the capital. The blaze broke out on a street near Piccadilly Circus and Shaftesbury Avenue has been closed in both directions.

At least three four fire engines and nearly two dozen firefighters are currently on the scene and pictures show plumes of smoke over the West End. Eyewitnesses have described panic as emergency workers descend on the area.

One person tweeted: “Multiple fire engines at Piccadilly Circus. Hope no one is hurt. Strong smell of smoke in the air”. While another said: “One wrote on Twitter: “OMG my friend just sent this to me! Fire at Ripley’s Believe It or Not in Piccadilly Circus. What really happened to London!”  More follows…
