The man who was arrested yesterday after he caused a full-scale terror alert at Manchester Airport has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
An RAF Typhoon fighter jet was scrambled to escort the passenger jet into Manchester after the pilot of the Airbus A330-30 detailed his concerns about a possible device aboard.
Chief Superintendent John O’Hare of Greater Manchester Police issued a statement, saying: “An incoming plane has been escorted into the airport by the Royal Air Force as a result of information received by the pilot about a possible device on board.”
Qatar Airways flight #QR23 from Doha, which was carrying 269 passengers and 13 Qatar Airways crew, landed safely and was boarded by armed police who arrested and detained an individual. He was arrested for making a fake bomb threat and sectioned pending a “fuller assessment.”
