aAt least 32 suspected illegal immigrants have been discovered in a container. Nineteen of them – seven of them children – have been hospitalised under quarantine conditions. Authorities describe the immigrants as having “significant health problems.”
The immigrants were rushed to Basildon Hospital after been found in a container at Tilbury Docks in Essex; the container came to the UK from Zeebrugge in Belgium and was unloaded at 7.35am this morning by the Port of Tilbury authorities. One man was already dead when they were discovered and a forensic pathologist will be carrying out a post-mortem shortly. The nationality of the immigrants has not yet been released.
Several ambulances are on the scene as well as doctors and members of the hazardous response team. The Basildon Hospital Twitter feed said: “A&E is open, but please be aware that waiting times may be extended.”
