A police officer has been stabbed in the Houses of Parliament in central London, in what police are treating as a terrorist incident. There are also reports of as many as five people being “mowed down” on nearby Westminster Bridge.
Armed officers reportedly opened fire and shot a person outside the Houses of Parliament. A number of shots were fired at around 2.35pm moments after a loud bang was heard inside the Palace estate. According to eyewitnesses there was three bodies were visible on the floor.Witnesses have described seeing a middle-aged man carrying a knife and running towards the Palace of Westminster. Jayne Wilkinson said: “We were taking photos of Big Ben and we saw all the people running towards us, and then there was an Asian guy in about his 40s carrying a knife about seven or eight inches long. And then there were three shots fired … the man was on the floor with blood.”
