A central London Tube station is currently being evacuated over reports a fire has erupted. One witness described pandemonium on Twitter, writing: “When a group of random people start running in London, you run as well”.
Other have described “scary” scenes and “siren everywhere” as emergency services descend on the scene. A bystander said: “Fire at Warren Street station. Being evacuated. I was just there, thought I was about to be blown up. I was walking down escalator and everyone started running in opposite direction yelling fire fire.
“It smelt like petrol or gas not just burning. They evacuated the station. Fire engines have turned up.” But despite witness reports of smoke at the station, a Transport for London (TfL) spokesman later denied a fire had broken out. He said an alarm had been triggered and an evacuation procedure was quickly put in place.
