A huge fire ripped through a tower block sending smoke billowing across London. Massive plumes of smoke were seen rising from a building site near Canary Wharf in east London.
London Fire Brigade confirmed it received calls about a fire at the site in Prestons Road at 2.03pm. Four engines and 20 firefighters were sent to battle the blaze. The building site was evacuated as emergency services rushed to the scene to tackle the flames.
The smoke from the fire could be seen for miles with dozens of Twitter users spotting it from across the capital including one from the top of Monument in central London. It is not thought anyone was injured in the fire. The huge blazes come just weeks after the Grenfell Tower disaster and days after fires at residential blocks in Camden and Bethnal Green.
