Bomb disposal experts were called in and residents were evacuated as police swooped on a house in Kidderminster last night. Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit carried out a search at an address in Merton Close at around 8pm on Monday evening.
A cordon was set up around the scene and nearby residents were evacuated after ‘suspicious material’ was discovered, but a bomb disposal unit later confirmed the material was not dangerous.
The search was carried out in connection with the arrest of a man who was found in possession of knives and an axe near an Army Reserve Centre in Kidderminster on Sunday night. The incident also led to disruption on the nearby railway line, with services between Worcester and Birmingham Snow Hill hit by delays and cancellations.
