Two British tourists have been found dead in Thailand.
The pair were found naked on a Thai beach and police said it appeared that they had been attacked with a hoe.
Police have revealed that the dead persons are a man and a woman; both were found with severe head injuries on a rocky beach on Koh Tao. Koh Tao is an island in the Surat Thani region which is famous for its varied diving sites and picturesque beaches.
Colonel Prachum Ruangthong, who is leading the investigation for the Thai police force said that the victims’ clothes were found near to the bodies. Also found was a blood-stained hoe and police suspect that this is the murder weapon as it would account for the grisly head wounds the pair sustained in the murderous attack. There is the possibility that a rock might be the murder weapon and a post-mortem will be carried out shortly.
Police are now checking CCTV footage from surrounding cafes, hotels and shops for evidence. The names of the couple have not been released, but the British Embassy has been informed.
Thr Foreign Office released a statement: “We are aware of the deaths of two British nationals on September 15 on the island of Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. The embassy is urgently seeking information from the local authorities and consular staff are ready to provide assistance to the friends and family at this tragic time.”
