A British man who is being held captive by Islamic militant Jihadi John is “desperately ill” after suffering torture at the hands of the fanatical group.
Kept in cramped conditions, father-of-two David Haines has been tortured with tasers and is so unwell that doctors have been summoned. Meanwhile, his family face an anguishing wait to see if Jihadi John will make good on his threat to murder David. His wife lives in Croatia with their four year-old child and his seventeen year-old daughter from his first marriage lives in Scotland, as does the rest of his family.
Sources close to the militants claim that David Haines is suffering from “serious digestive problems” and struggling to keep food down: “Haines has suffered a good deal from vomiting, diarrhoea and gastro-intestinal problems. A doctor on at least once occasion was brought in for him because he was so very sick.”
David Haines was captured by militants just ten days after being employed by the French aid charity Acted (Agency for Technical Co-operation and Development). His wife Dragana is hoping that David Cameron will give the order to deploy the SAS on a rescue mission. Their four year-old daughter has not been told of her father’s capture.
Videos released by IS show British and US prisoners clothed in orange jumpsuits, a symbol recognised to be a reference to prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay. The latest footage of Haines shows him to be thin and ailing. Jihadi John threatened that Haines would be his next victim and he has already brutally beheaded two US journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff.
