Families have been evacuated and parts of a town centre have been closed off by police after a suspicious package was found.bluered

The bomb squad is understood to have been scrambled to unstable town centre in Bedfordshire just hours before polling stations are due to close as the referendum voting deadline looms.

Icknield Street, West Street and Princes Street have been evacuated and a police cordon put in place. It is not known at this stage if the incident is linked to the referendum.
