A four-year-old boy has died after an incident at a holiday park swimming pool in Cumbria.The youngster, who has not been named, is understood to have been staying with his family in a lodge in the grounds of the Holker Estate, near Grange-over-Sands.
At 4.40pm on Monday, police were called to Old Park Wood holiday park on the estate. The boy was taken to hospital in Barrow-in-Furness before later being transferred to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital in a critical condition. It was confirmed by police on Tuesday that the boy had died.
In a statement, the Cumbria force said: “Police can confirm that the four-year-old boy involved in this incident has sadly died. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident but the death is not being treated as suspicious. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
Old Park Wood is described on its website as “an unrivalled private holiday park offering residents their very own luxurious, Cumbrian retreat.” Among the facilities listed is an “Indoor, heated swimming pool with changing rooms”.
