Becky described Phil as her “soul-mate”

20 year-old Becky Tait stepped in front of a train near Stone Railway Station in Staffordshire just 8 weeks after her boyfriend 19 year-old Phil James did the same thing. Both were hit by speeding trains and both were killed instantly.

A friend of the couple named Adam said they had recently enjoyed a holiday together: “They really got along and went to Portugal this summer, when Phil died she said she’d lost her soul-mate. She was inconsolable and I don’t think she coped well. Despite people trying to show their support she just shied away and went into her own little bubble. She didn’t talk about it, which I don’t think helped. It’s a tragic loss of two good people. It is so sad.”

Becky’s father released a statement about his daughter’s suicide: “Becky will be sadly missed by many people. Sadly Becky took her own life. We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes, support and floral tributes.”

One of Phil’s former rugby coaches, Becky Davies, “Phil and Becky were in the same friendship group. This will have a double impact on their friends and it’s horrendous. I felt devastated when I heard about it. As a parent, my thoughts are with her family. The fact they had to help her through the first situation with Phil and are now having to go through it themselves is something I couldn’t even quantify. It’s horrendous news and extremely sad.”

Police have said they are not treating Becky’s death as suspicious.
