The carefully planned EastEnders 30th Anniversary episode appears to have had its surprise plot twist spoilt after the plot line was leaked.
The denouement of the “who killed Lucy Beale?” story was set to happen in February in the 30th anniversary episode, but a flurry of bets seem to show that keen fans have either solved the mystery themselves – or been tipped the wink by an insider on the show.
A betting-spree in Middlesbrough saw eager fans putting their money on Jay Brown being the killer; the betting was so heavy that bookmakers slashed their odds from outsider at 100/1 to downright favourite at 4/1 over the weekend.
If punters are correct, Ladbrokes could face a £50,000 pay out. Ladbrokes spokeswoman, Jessica Bridge, said: “It looks like there has been a leak and we’ve been forced to pull the plug on the whodunit market. The money clearly suggests Walford’s police will be arresting Jay Brown sooner rather than later.”
Jay Brown, one of Walford’s bad boys, is portrayed in the popular soap by Jamie Borthwick. EastEnders viewers witnessed the revelation last week that Brown had been travelling on the same bus as murder victim Lucy Beale (played by Hetti Bywater) on the night she was killed. And Brown has form; he was persuaded by Phil Mitchell to aid Ben Mitchell in the cover-up of the murder of Heather Trott.
